Today we are going to Maras, at the other end of the sacred valley. The road isn't too transient, false flat descendant and very pretty. It doesn't take long to arrive to Urubamba, a village at the foot of the hill leading to the salt ponds of Maras. From there we leave the paved road to ride a small dirt road. The path becomes very steep very fast, we're forced to push the bikes. It's in full effort that we meet a French couple, Maxime and Lea, with whom we discuss all the way to the salt ponds.

The salt ponds are impressive, the mixture of white salt and ocher of the earth is very pretty. The salt comes from an underground source, the men then built these small terraces all owned by members of the community. These salt ponds were built before the arrival of the Incas.

After a typical lunch in the salt ponds car park, we head to Maras. The path winds along the mountains and the traffic is intense, there are many tourists. Once in Maras, we settle in a small hotel, shortly before the French couple met earlier join us. We spend a very good afternoon discussing everything and nothing with our compatriots.
