Arriving to La Paz

There is only 25km to reach the highway to La Paz. This two lane times two is not interesting: the emergency lane is wide but the traffic becomes very intense when approaching La Paz and the landscape isn't really interesting. To avoid 100km of this highway and a long crossing of the El Alto district, we opt for the bus.

We don't want to bother schoolchildren and teachers and leave before their arrival. We cross two small villages between two hills before finishing on a long downhill flat bordered with quinoa fields and leading to Patacamaya. From here we find a minibus to take us near La Paz airport.

La Paz is an amazing city originally built at the bottom of a deep valley but it has grown to completely cover the valley and plateau above, the district of El Alto, our starting point in this city. The most common transportation mean here is the minibus, but there are also several lines of cable cars that dominate the city.

We'll use the cable car to reach the city center, then another to reach the southern district, where our Warmshower hosts live. Taking the cable car is more complicated than expected, we've to deal with human stupidity more than common sense. With a little perseverance and exasperation we've passed this test. The view from up there wasn't beautiful but damn impressive.
