The pass to Talacasto

Today is a pass day! We go to Talacasto, a hamlet at by the road 40, passing by a pass with a rise of 1100m of altitude and a descent of 1200m, all on asphalt.

The sky is gray and loaded with clouds when we awake, it hadn't happened for a long time. Fortunately the visibility remains pretty good, we don't see all the peaks but at least it's not very hot. There is virtually no traffic, the mountain is very pretty, especially with these peculiar lights. In the late morning we take a shower, just enough to cool us, we dry very quickly. We lunch very close to the summit before starting a long descent. On the way we meet a Danish couple on motorcycles who started their trip from Buenos Aires.

Around 4pm we arrive in Talacasto, which is really just a roadside restaurant and some ruined houses. The heat here is at the highest, there's almost no cloud. Since it's still early we decide to hitchhike to get closer to Villa Union from where we would like to visit the Talampaya canyon. After 1.5h of waiting, Dani and Maria take us to San José de Jáchal, or Jáchal in short, 90km further. From there we learn that a bus for Villa Union leaves at 22:30, the decision is quickly taken, tonight we sleep in Villa Union.

We spend our evening on the big place of Jáchal: hamburgers, beer and photo exhibition. We arrive at Villa Union at 1:30 in the morning. After several failures, we find a hostel still open.
