Villarica and its volcano

We leave quite late for the first day of the year. We are very reluctant to take the planned route, a small trail to the north. Indeed, today is fine but tomorrow and the following days it rains, and the track should be less pleasant than asphalt, and the view clogged. We decide to go through Pucon and the asphalt road. We have a nice view of the big volcano Villarica all day.

We stop at Villarica. We try one thing that we never dared before: go and ask the fire fighters to sleep at the station. The Bomberos allow us to sleep in their restroom and use their kitchen. We go to the beach to eat something, we try the "Rico Mate" (a kind of oasis with wheat in it, we don't really like it), then we go back to sleep. The life of a station up close: it's scattered calls, then sometimes, lots of calls, the siren, the firefighters coming in, and the truck rushing out.
