The
pampa tour begins with 3 hours of car to reach Santa Rosa de
Yacuma to have lunch before boarding with our guide on the river. Upon boarding, we see dolphins in the harbor. During the first boat ride we see turtles doing a sun bath, banana-loving yellow monkeys, unusual birds and lush vegetation.
We arrive in the afternoon at the camp on stilts. There we can see a black caiman of 5-6m long just under the gangway leading to the kitchens. After a short break, we embark to see the sunset on the river and a hunt for caiman and alligators in the night. Their eyes reflect the light of our flashlights, we flush out some caiman babies hunting.
The next day we start the day with a search for anacondas. The problem is that we're at the end of the rainy season, so the
water level is very high and there is very little land, which makes it
difficult to observe anacondas. After a quick tour on the mainland, we start a tour in the surrounding swamps. At times we've water to the pond, and we have seen only an anaconda skin despite all the efforts of our guide. Back at the camp, we try as best as we can to wash our pants that smell mud.
In the early afternoon we swim with the dolphins. Our guide throws a bottle in the water with which they don't start playing with right away. We're very close to them and one of them even come to touch Floriane. The rest of the afternoon is dedicated to fishing for piranhas. These small fishes are very fast and eat very quickly 90% of our baits. François manages to get one when the guide fishes five. On
the way to the camp we can see red and then black howler monkeys as
well as cappuccino monkeys before enduring a good downpour. Tonight we eat piranha.
For the last day, we take the boat to see the sunrise then navigate around to observe parrots, cormorants, storks, owls and other birds and a baby alligator. We leave the camp after lunch and arrive in the evening to Rurrenabaque, where we take the bus to La Paz. The bus ride is very chaotic and one of the belt of the old bus needs to be replaced at the first break. We arrive nevertheless in the times in La Paz. We rest the rest of the day.
