Barely seven kilometers on the track we meet the first cyclists of the day, two French from Alaska and a Swiss. We talk for a moment before we hit the road and meet another cyclist
who tell us what's coming: in 10 kilometers, we will climb on a plateau
before arriving on a portion where the track is full of small rolling small stones.
We eat on a trunk fallen over a stream near the top of the plateau. The afternoon is easy until the famous section in poor condition. We
are 30-40 kilometers from Villa Cerro Castillo and the road becomes
very wide, quite wide enough for at least four cars, and indeed the
gravels of the track are not sealed in the ground as usual and roll under our wheels. Luckily the wind is with us and the road is flat. It seems that the widening of the road is fairly recent. The aisles were nibbled, no room for a tent. It is also difficult to find non-muddy water, this is the first time since the beginning of the Carretera Austral.
At the time when we hope to find a place to sleep we find absolutely nothing. The clock ticks and now we have to climb a hill, then to pass the 2000 km milestome since the beginning of our journey. After the usual selfie, we search a little more before we resign ourselves to go to the campsite Los Nires 10 kilometers from Villa Cerro Castillo. Relieved to have found a place to sleep, we realize that the campground is very hard, surely too much to install our tipi properly. Given the late hour (18:30) and our state of tiredness, we opt for the Bed & Breakfast option. The room and the bathroom are very clean, we are going to have a good night.
