We leave early from our friends firefighters, a long climb awaits us once again. We begin by descending to the bottom of the valley from where we fork off the main road to take an old colonial stone bridge. The view is beautiful with the morning light. Immediately after the bridge we begin the climb.
The road is in good condition, uncrowded but very often partly covered with scree. We climb to the only village of the day where we stop for a take-away meal in the only restaurant in the village. The parrot in the restaurant keeps company to us and two Americans couples whose car has just broken down.
Shortly
after the village, we arrive at a crossroads: on the left the old road,
dirt but much shorter and with less altitude gain and to the right the paved
road longer, more crowded, with more altitude but passing through all
the villages from the neighborhood. We make the choice of tranquility and minimum altitude, we have enough like that, so we take a left.
The dirt road is in very good condition, the slope isn't very steep and we cross a truck full of potatoes every hour. From above we have a beautiful view of the valley of Abancay where we come from. The rest of the day we go up and just as good as the beginning.
In the late afternoon we are looking for a place to sleep, we are aiming for an isolated hamlet. The hamlet is nothing more than 4 abandoned and partly collapsed houses, a water source and a beautiful lawn terrace with a very nice view. We'll have a very good evening and a very beautiful night.
