We embarked on the great adventure of crossing South America by bicycle. Initially from Ushuaia (Argentina) to Quito (Ecuador) crossing no less than five countries: Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, and Ecuador. But plans changed on the go, we stopped at Ayacucho (Peru), for South America, and then began a Franco-Belgian tour from Brussels to Les Artigues de Lussac (near Bordeaux) through Paris and Brittany to visit family and friends.
We slept in our tepee or in more unusual places like a cheese factory, at a border post, in a police station, several time with firefighters... We're also part of two networks that allowed us to meet people and discover their culture (Warmshowers and Servas). And when we were tired, we stopped for a few days in hotels or B & B.
We flew from Helsinki on the 11th of October 2017. Our first day of cycling was the 17th of October, then, the 6th of June 2018, we left Peru (Lima) for Brussels to begin the second part of the trip on the 8th of June 2018. We arrived in Les Artigues de Lussac on the 7th of August 2018, it was the end of the trip.
We rode on beautiful roads, like the road 7 in Patagonia, Chile (From El Chaltén to Villa O'Higgins, From Villa O'Higgins to Tortel, From Tortel to Cochrane, From Cochrane to Coyhaique, From Coyhaique to Chaitén), and the road 40 in Argentina (The seven lakes road, From Paso Icalma to Chos Malal, From Chos Malal to Malargüe). The South Bolivian Lipez is full of magnificent landscapes. Peru has marked us with its winding roads and deep valleys.
We allowed ourselves one year maximum to make this trip.
Some sites that we visited in bulk: the Torres del Paine National Park (Chile), The Perito Moreto glacier (Argentinna), Talampaya Canyon (Argentina), the Uyuni salt flat (Bolivia), the colorful mountains of Humahuaca (Argentina), the Amazon jungle (Bolivia), the mountain of 7 colors (Peru), the famous Machu Picchu (Peru).
